What is visibility in AI search (GEO), and how is it different from SEO?

SEO is about ranking high in Google's results. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is about assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity recognising you correctly and citing you when they write an answer. Both rest on the same foundation: search engines crawling your site, a clear statement of who you are and what you do, and that information being confirmed by other sources.

Why doesn't ChatGPT or Gemini recommend me?

Before recommending someone, an assistant needs to find them and trust them. The most common reasons for not being recommended are:

  • Your site is not in Google's or Bing's index, or it is new (ChatGPT search relies heavily on Bing)
  • What you do, for whom and where is not written in one clear sentence
  • Your title and field are described differently on your site, on LinkedIn and on other profiles
  • There is no evidence of your work: case studies, named references, publications or other sources that mention you

Does it help to ask AI assistants to "recommend me"?

No. Assistants do not learn from individual chats; a request in one conversation does not change the answer they give someone else. Hiding instructions for AI on your site does not work either; search engines treat it as spam. The lasting route is to appear correctly, with evidence, in the sources assistants read.

Do I need to praise myself or post every day?

No. Praise does not build trust; specifics do. Instead of "many years of industry experience", writing "in 2022 I rebuilt the order process at a 150-person logistics company", backed by a named reference from that client, is far stronger. A few strong pieces a month work better than weak daily posts. An AI agent can prepare the drafts; you decide what gets published.

Where should I start?

By seeing where you stand today. The Visibility Check uses 16 short questions to show where you stand across eight areas: positioning, expertise, case studies and references, point of view and content, findability, website experience, network and recommendations, and first step. It does not score you, and your answers do not leave your browser unless you send them. If you like, I review your public sources and prepare the full report in writing.

How long does it take?

The basic setup of positioning, website and LinkedIn profile usually takes a few weeks. Google and Bing can also take a few weeks to crawl new pages. For AI assistants to recommend you, case studies, references and sources that mention you need to build up over time. This is steady work, not a campaign.

What does it cost?

There are no fixed prices on the site. The scope follows the needs the check reveals; I send the price in writing after the first meeting. No big-agency process or invoice: you deal with me directly and the work scales to your budget.

Who do you work with?

Corporate trainers and training firm founders, independent consultants, executives moving into consulting or board roles, and boutique specialist firms. I work with experts in Türkiye and across Europe, in Turkish or English.

I built this site the same way.

serhataltunoglu.com follows the principles described here: every page states clearly who I am and what I do, there is structured data for search engines and AI assistants, and claims come with their level of evidence. I explain how evidence builds up in What does a referred client see when they search for you?
